Meals on Wheels of RI has expanded its services over the years to include much more than providing a hot nutritious daily meal. Learn about the other senior-related services that the agency offers to elders across the state.
Personal Emergency Response Program
Meals on Wheels of RI, Inc. offers the Emergency Response Program to our clients and the general public. There are approximately 600 people currently using this state-of-the-art life saving device. The two-way voice interactive communicator connects clients to a support center through their telephone line. This unit allows people to call for help 24 hours a day with the touch of a waterproof button that can be worn either on the wrist or around the neck. The cost of the unit is $39 for installation and $39 for monthly monitoring. Individuals receiving Medicaid may be eligible for a reduced rate through the waiver program. For further information, please call 1-800-888-0338.
Senior Wish Program
Since 2005, our Senior Wish program has helped grant the “wishes” of seniors. We are able to provide typical everyday items such as hand lotions, soap, towels and robes and seasonal items such as fans and air conditioning units or blankets (when available). Meals on Wheels Mission is to support and “brighten” the lives of Rhode Island’s senior population. If you are a senior in need of such a “wish”, are over the age of 50, a Rhode Island resident and are currently receiving services within the Rhode Island Aging Network you may request a “wish”. Each wish is reviewed by our Senior Wish program coordinator and committee. You may call us directly to place your “wish”. Call 401-351-6700.
Meals on Wheels also accepts donations to support the Senior Wish program. If you and or your organization would like to make a donation please call 401-351-6700.
Pet Food Program
Like their owners, the pets that are cherished by our seniors also need food to stay healthy. Appreciating how important it is to both provide seniors and their pets with high quality nutritious meals, MOWAA created We All Love Our Pets (WALOP) – a national initiative that seeks to unite Meals on Wheels programs across the country in their efforts to keep seniors and their beloved pets well nourished.
MOWofRI has partnered with a number of agencies, local companies and friends to make it possible for them to make special pet food deliveries to the seniors they serve. Many clients lack the resources needed to integrate this important activity – keeping companion pets, sometimes a homebound senior’s only “family” member, well nourished and healthy – into routine program operations.
All MOWofRI clients are eligible to receive pet food and supplies. Please contact our office for details.
Donations of pet food can be arranged by calling 401.351.6700 ext. 140.
